Thanksgiving Recap

Well, I seem to have neglected things around here for a little while.  I started on a few posts last week, but nothing ever really got finished.  We’ll be back to some regular posting this week, I promise.

We had a great Thanksgiving that started out with dinner at the in-laws the Sunday before Thanksgiving.  Xander managed to nap through the meal and Jack had a blast playing with trains.  Mommy enjoyed not having a child cling to her every hour of the day like has been the case for the 3 prior Thanksgiving dinners at the in-laws.  I made some yummy crab dip and a cheesecake (my first one!).  After thoroughly stuffing ourselves, we headed home.

Thanksgiving itself was pretty low-key.  I started the day by running in the YMCA Turkey Trot.  My first 5k!  I had a great time and a great pace.  I finished the race in 30:59 which is basically 10 minutes a mile.  That’s a bit faster than I usually run.  I usually run about 10 1/2 minutes a mile.  I was pleased with my time and that I finished my first race.  I ran on Saturday and Sunday and ran a bit faster than usual.  I seems like Thursday’s run gave me a little confidence to run a faster pace.

After the race and a shower, we headed over to the in-laws for a low-key day.  More playing with trains, more napping by the baby and more hanging out and relaxing.  Not a bad way to spend the day.

Friday was full of Christmas decorating.  Jack gets so excited for the trees to be up and lit.  He loves “all the beautiful lights”.  Xander seemed fairly impressed when he first say the trees, but so far has pretty much ignored them (knock on wood).  We still have some more decorating to do, but the Christmas spirit has definitely arrived in our house.

Saturday morning we loaded up the boys and headed to the 4th(?) Annual Yinz Team Turkey Bowl.  My husband lives for this game.  This year the weather was warm enough to take the boys.  We spent about half the time at a nearby playground and the other half running around at the field.  The boys had a fantastic time and I got to spend some time with some friends.

Saturday was a late night as my sister-in-law came over to watch the boys while my husband and I went out with friends.  Some of us drank too much and all of us surely went to bed far too late.  Sunday morning came much too quickly, but we survived by making it most a lazy day, playing with friends and not doing much else.

So there you go.  That’s what we’ve been up to for the last week.  How was your holiday?
