Let’s Talk Turkey!
Thanksgiving is quickly approaching. There are just 14 short days until Turkey Day. Just two weeks until the official start of the holiday season. I typically start the holiday season off with a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner with family and then commence with the Christmas decorating, Christmas baking, Christmas shopping, Christmas eating. You get the idea.
This year is different. This year I am doing something to start the holiday season that shocks even me. This year I am going to run in the PNC YMCA Turkey Trot. On Thanksgiving morning I’m going to get up, head the North Shore and run my first 5k event ever. Like it wasn’t shocking enough when I started running. Or when I decided that I actually LIKE running. Now I’m going to run my first race. I hope it’s not my last.
I’m all kinds of excited and nervous and “Oh My Gosh, I can’t believe I’m doing this”. I think I’m ready for this. I’ve only been running for a few months, but I have recently reached a point where running just three miles doesn’t feel like “enough” so I’ve been running 4 miles a couple times a week. I know the course (the North Shore and downtown Pittsburgh) and it’s not terribly hilly. I don’t want to set unrealistic expectations or anything, so let’s just say I’ll be proud of myself for crossing the finish line.
And of course after I finish the race (and shower), I plan to stuff my face with some yummy Thanksgiving dinner.
