Birthday Party Recap
Sunday we had Xander’s 1st Birthday Party. I generally try to do low-key birthday parties. And by low-key, I mean about 20 people crammed into my house watching the boys play and eat.
I really wish I had taken pictures of the food, but I made balsamic glazed pulled pork, crab dip, and pumpkin dip. We also had sandwiches from a local sub place and a bunch of snacky food. Clearly birthday parties are not for anyone not willing to cheat on their diet.
After some delicious food and socializing, we decided to let the Xander dig into the presents.

Jack’s birthday isn’t for another week but there are a couple people who can’t make it to his party so he got a few presents too.

After we opened and assembled ALL the toys, we moved onto the main event. Cake.
Xander had swiped a handful of icing from the cake as we were singing Happy Birthday. We got him into the high chair and set the smash cake in front of him. He did not disappoint the crowd.

I’m pretty sure that he had a good time.
Thanks to all our friends and family for helping us celebrate Xander’s first year!

Ha sounds like my ‘low key’ plans- ending with 13 kids running around the house. WHAT?? gah! (so fun though!)
Great cake shots
He really got into it! Happy birthday X!!
THE BLOND CURLS. I can’t take it. I just can’t.
I love the cake on his nose. He is so cute! And great picture of you!
I love the last photo – he is looking like “WHERE DID THE CAKE GO, WOMAN?”
I love the smash cake tradition! And I love that you just let him go for it. nothing drives me crazier than a parent hovering over a one-year-old ready to clean him/her up. Birthdayss are for CAKE and frosting. The more the better!
Icing in the curls! Love it!!!
