Nine Months

Nine months already?  That’s 3/4 of a year!  Can you believe that I’ve already started planning (and by plan, I mean I’ve picked a date) a birthday party for this little man?

Yesterday was Xander’s nine month well baby visit.  No shots (yay!) just a check-up.  X weighed in at a hefty 17lbs 13oz and is 27 1/2 inches long.  He is definitely still on the small side (11th percentile for weight and 20th percentile for height), but his growth is consistent. He’s just a peanut.  And not only is his growth consistent, it is eerily similar to Jack’s growth over his first nine  months.

So what has Xander been up to the last month?  Goodness has this child been busy.

As I predicted, Xander decided that he would become a full-fledged crawler while we were on vacation.  Along with crawling, Xander is pulling himself up.  Mostly to his knees but he’s pulling to a standing position too.  No cruising yet as he hasn’t quite figured  out how to move his feet once he is standing.  He also started saying “babababa” and “dadadada” while we were away.

Crawling Monster!

Xander now has 4 teeth (3 on the bottom and one on the top) and a look in his mouth yesterday at the doctor’s office showed at least three more teeth trying to poke their way through his gums.  No wonder the kid drools like it’s going out of style.  I can honestly say that I have never seen a child drool more than Xander does.  There are days we go through 10 bibs a day!

Finger foods are still a trouble spot.  I recently stumbled across the fact that Xander will put food in his mouth if it isn’t bite sized pieces.  I *may* have discovered this by letting him pick up a french fry.  I *might* have figured that there was no way he would put it in his mouth (let alone take a bite of it) because it was food.  Xander *may have* proved me wrong.  So, given that he likes to take bites (although not actually ingest a whole lot) of food, we are going that route.  Yesterday the pedi didn’t seem concerned at all and said to just keep trying.

Can I eat this?

And then there is that topic that you should never, ever blog about (unless it’s to say how bad it is cause then your child will automatically start doing what you should never ever blog about).  Let’s just say that I’m blaming the doctor asking about said topic for Mr. X’s performance last night.  I should probably blame to 3 teeth too, but I’d rather blame the pedi.

And last but certainly not least, Xander is still completely mesmerized by his big brother.  He watches Jack with such intent. If you are holding Xander and he can’t see Jack, he literally leans around you so that he can see what Jack is doing.  No one can make Xander laugh like Jack does.  He is amused by ever silly thing that his brother does.  Watching the two of them together makes my day.
